Jabiru Prod’s ‘Project Alapi’
How can the technology of today compete with tradition in indigenous tribes in Brazil? The elders of the tribes in the Haut Xingu worry about losing their culture especially with their young more and more into modern technology. Jabiru Prod was created to teach these young people about filmmaking to document their tribes’ traditions, legends, and music. All funds collected are used to purchase equipment, pay teachers, and provide transportation with the goal being to film a documentary about their culture. This not only teaches the young tribal members new skills, but it also creates an important historical record about life in the Amazon.
